Rules For Your Dishwasher

The dishwasher is a super treasured appliance. I mean, it cleans and dries a bunch of dirty dishes in about an hour! Your dishwasher has some rules though... make sure you know them to keep it (and your belongings!) safe and in working order.

Food covered dishes - chunks of food need to stay away from your dishwasher... it will just clog it up!

Travel mugs - these mugs sometimes can have hollow parts where water can get stuck and cause mold to grow.

Cast iron - keep the cast iron out! The dishwasher will strip the non-stick surface you've worked hard on and can cause rust.

Wood - wood cutting boards and utensils can splinter and weaken in the dishwasher. Hand wash them and dry quickly.

Fine china - if your fine china has metallic designs make sure to hand wash! The delicate design can wear off during a dishwashing cycle.

Gold Flat wear - while silver is safe, gold colored flat wear will dull and fade in the dishwasher.

Sharp knives - putting these guys in the dishwasher will only dull them.

Plastic - some plastic is marked "dishwasher safe", but make sure you keep in the top rack or it might warp.

Non-stick pots and pans - unless marked "dishwasher safe", these pots and pans need to be hand washed to keep their non-stick coating.
